Noble Champagne Grand Cru Brut, 2005
I first tried this Champagne during a French producer’s wine tasting at Total Wine. Here I also tasted the Tsarine Gold Brut Champagne. I thought the standard Brut was quite good, but once I tasted this 2005 Grand Cru, I was truly impressed. It immediately stood out and made all of the previous wines tasted loose points for me.
What surprised me most afterward was seeing how mixed the reviews were online. Personally, I found this to be a great Champagne. It shows remarkable care and dedication for a 20-year-old wine, and out of all the wines I tasted that day—sparkling, red, and white—this was by far my favorite. While some people online felt it was too sweet or unbalanced, I experienced it as well-balanced with a beautiful, lingering finish. Perhaps the other opinions tasted a different vintage.

Verdict Fresh aromas of lemon zest and honeysuckle lead the nose. On the palate, it leans slightly sweet with notes of hazelnut, toasted nuts, honey, and ripe pear. The golden color and impressively persistent, fine bubbles add to its elegance.
