A Bold First Vintage: Belair-Coubet Malbec
Floral Notes with a Toasty Finish
Château Belair-Coubet Côtes de Bourg Malbec is a pleasant surprise, especially since French Malbecs aren’t as common as their Argentinian counterparts. I recently tried the 2019 vintage, and it was a real treat. With flavors of blackberry and raspberry, along with a touch of toastiness, it had a nice depth that I wasn’t expecting — different than the Prieure de Cenac, but i was as surprised. What’s even more impressive is that this was their very first vintage, and it’s already earned 90 points from Wine Enthusiast.
This 100% Malbec also has some floral notes that give it a bit more complexity. It’s a smooth, enjoyable wine that stands out as a great example of French Malbec. I was really happy to come across it, and it’s definitely something I’d recommend if you’re looking to try something different.
I haven’t yet tried their Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon blends, but after tasting this Malbec, I’m definitely curious to see what else they have to offer. It’s exciting to find a wine this good from a first-time vintage. Belair-Coubet Malbec, definitely a bold first vintage.
