Château Peyrabon: A Winner!

Château Peyrabon: A Winner!Score 92%Score 92%

A few months ago, I was tasting and ranking some wines when The French Wine Merchant’s owner brought out this gem. The 2016 vintage was truly incredible; right when pouring, the smell filled the entire shop. The enchanting dark hues immediately caught my eye, and after tasting it, I realized one of my usual house Bordeauxs needed decanting only after comparing it to this winner. This Haut-Médoc beauty made me appreciate Bordeaux even more, especially after spending time in the region and learning to understand the subtle differences among appellations. The right-bank Cabernet really shines here—smooth, with a harmonious structure and refined tannins that beautifully reflect the terroir. I picked up subtle notes of chocolate and tobacco that added complexity to every sip.

Knowing Chateau Peyrabon’s history dating back to 1766 made the experience even more special, especially since its wines once sold at prices similar to the 1855 Classified Growths. Using my Coravin, I brought it home to share, and of course, it was a hit. This is definitely on my list of must-try wines.
